Florida in August...
First off, we were greeted at the airport with such a surprise: Everyone had posters that said "Have you seen these people?" and it had old pictures of us. Me and Tim from when we were dating, baby pictures of the kids....it was such a good idea. Where do you guys get these ideas, anyway? Too fun.
Of course we stopped at Larry's on the way home. We saved up for it. Didn't eat all day to make sure we were hungry when we got there. The kids are sold on Larry's. It was a hit. We enjoyed the ride from the airport, with the kids remembering landmarks and such.
We got to Gramma's and Papa's, and immediately the kids started looking around at pictures, saying hello to Big Kitty, etc. She looked so good. They also couldn't get over how BIG midnight is! Nathaniel remembered that Midnight scratched him last time, so he steered clear for awhile.
We had a surprise set up for dad H, and the kids were so excited to give it to him. They kept the secret for MONTHS. We were able to give him the picture collage of the kids at his old firehouse in Detroit. We had known for awhile that we were going to have a layover there, so we made arrangements to go there and look around. It was so fun for the kids to see their dad's old house (actually SEE the window he used to sneak out of to get pizza). We also noticed that Big Dad learned to drive on the street BEHIND their house. That was telling. Anyway, it was a fun walk with Papa, Gramma and Bid Dad down memory lane.
Some of the things we were able to do while we were there were:
Islands of Adventure. That is an awesome place, and so much cheaper than Disney! Much better choice.
Homosassa Springs. I lived there for 9 years, and never once went to Homosassa Springs. It's a beautiful place, and the kids got to see a lot of wildlife.
NASA. Along with the tornado. The combination was almost too much!
Cracker Barrel on a FEW occasions. I just can't get enough of their veggie plate.
Big Dad, Dad and Timo went on an overnight deep sea fishing trip. Bubs and San were too young for that one.
Em got to help Gramma at her work. They broke an old ladie's garage door.
Colleen got her fill of boys, I think. They were ALWAYS at her house.
Great fireworks display (Thanks Rich and Tim, and your eternal "boys with their toys" way of life)
Timothy got to sleep with a farting dog.
The boys had plenty of beds to sleep in at Colleens, but either chose the floor or those amazing chairs in the living room.
Big Dad got the World's Record for the quickest "fall asleep" time in those chairs.
We got to see the Fletcher's and their cute little girls.
Charlie pushed Timo into the pool.
Em got to ride the lawn mower. And drive a little bit, but she was too nervous.
Timo worked with Papa nonstop in his workshop. We have two bird houses to prove it.
It was a great time. We enjoyed ourselves, were able to relax when we weren't worrying about doctor's appointments, and just enjoyed being with family.
All in all a great end to a great summer!
